A Legacy of Faith

Nicholson Baptist Church has a rich heritage built upon the foundation of Jesus Christ and the faithful believers who have served Him through the generations. Established on February 13, 1909, from the membership of the old Cabin Creek Church, our congregation began in the small village of Nicholson, which at that time had fewer than five hundred residents. During that first year, three believers followed Christ in baptism, and the church grew to include 90 resident members and 30 non-residents. The first deacons were ordained on October 9, marking the beginning of a long tradition of service and spiritual leadership.

From our first pastor, Reverend B.W. Merciers, to Pastor Terry Smith—who was unanimously called to serve in 2000—and now to Pastor Russ Brown, who faithfully shepherds our church family today, Nicholson Baptist has continued to experience God’s goodness and guidance. Through every season, we have seen the truth of God’s Word fulfilled: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). Our story is one of steadfast faith, devoted leadership, and a church family committed to sharing the love of Christ and making disciples as He commanded in Matthew 28:19–20.  

Today, Nicholson Baptist Church remains dedicated to shining the light of Christ in our community and beyond. We continue to grow in faith, love, and service, seeking to live out the calling found in Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Through worship, discipleship, and outreach, we strive to nurture hearts, strengthen families, and share the hope of the Gospel with all who come our way. Just as God has been faithful through our past, we trust Him to guide us into the future, equipping us to reach the next generation with the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
