Proverbs 23 on January 23:

Proverbs is a book of wisdom, but some would say it is difficult to understand.  “It’s like drinking from a fire hose.”  [ “The Bozo Show”]  Let’s get out our Bibles boys and girls and understand this chapter together.  Verses 1-8 is about eating; Verses 9-16 is about wisdom and applying wisdom in speaking, honesty, instruction, correction of children and wise rejoicing.  Verses 17-35 is about guidance of the heart in alcohol consumption, remembering upbringing, prostitution, and getting drunk.  Have you got enough from the fire hose yet?

Simply speaking, Proverbs 23 is about life, and that is complicated, so God’s word is candid and to the point.  Point being: if we want to live for God, the instruction is in the Word of God and it is like a pearl of precious wisdom.  I encourage you to pluck the pearl from the chaos and live for Christ today.

I wrote you a poem, which I hope will encourage you:

What Will I Do With My Life

As a child with my life to live

I ponder to what vocation to give.

My life is important I know to be true

So what will I give of my talents to do?

I could seek out a trade or an occupation

Set my head to gain a great education.

My family would no doubt take a front place

What else would I do with this empty space?

Something is pressing I do not understand

Christ is the one with a wonderful plan.

By His grace and strength each and every hour

I will give all I am to know His power.

Belief carries my spirit away this day

I will give my life to live His way.
